Growing up in the farming industry Lindsay grew up as a third-generation sod farmer in Markham, ON. Life brought her to Oro-Medonte where she opened a Northern addition of Fairgreen Sod farms.
With social media influences and the rise of popularity of Sunflower fields to capture that swoon-worthy photo, Whitney (Lindsay’s sister), thought it would be a great idea to start growing sunflowers.
After much research, Whitney decided to grow Sunflowers and ordered 6 bags of seeds (she saved Lindsay 1!). This 1 bag would cover 10 acres of her 89-acre farm. Being a lover of colour and flowers Lindsay wasn’t going to grow just sunflowers… she ordered thousands of flower seeds (46, 627 to be exact). From then on Lindsay knew she would have a cut flower field with an irrigation system, with perfectly planned out plots covered in fabric and, of course, Sunflowers.
Sounds pretty simple, right? Little did she know how intense the planning would be from irrigation fittings to plant spacing and “days to maturity”. Turns out growing flowers is slightly different than growing grass. But that didn’t stop her!
Lindsay is very excited to have visitors to her fields, so that everyone can enjoy the beautiful flowers!
